Avertium subject matter experts Hoyt L. Kesterson and Daniel Giebink will present on the latest developments in passwords, “Better Living Through Better Passwords,” at the 2020 Rocky Mountain Information Security Conference (RMISC) to be held from June 9 to 11, 2020 at the Colorado Convention Center.
The seismic shift in password guidance is characterized by no complexity, no forced change. Hardware and software improvements in hashing as a result of crypto-currency mining put increased pressure on storing a password securely. Yet, password spraying stays below detection thresholds and SIM-swapping threatens multi-factor authentication. Add to the mix, those who advocate getting rid of passwords and the result is fluidity.
In this presentation, Hoyt and Daniel will provide guidance on:
- Syntax, management and strengthening secure storage of passwords
- Second-factor tokens including the risk of using SMS to convey authentication information
- Improving detection of online credential attacks
- Password replacements
